Six Week Summer Institute
High Standards Commitment to Excellence Successful Environment
The online registration will open by the end of October 2010.
The CLEO Six Week Summer Institute is designed to demystify and shed light on the law school experience. Preparation builds confidence and participants enter law school more confident in their ability to succeed.
The full time program held on two law school campuses during June and July, is both rigorous and intensive. The 2010 CLEO Summer Institutes were held at Florida International University College of Law and the University of Missouri School of Law-Columbia. The 2011 host law schools will be announced in December.
The institute focuses on legal methods and techniques that emphasize developing the student’s abstract thinking, analysis, and synthesizing skills. It has a track record of success. More than 8,000 economically disadvantages students have been oriented to law school through the CLEO pre-law Six Week Summer Institute since 1968. Over 90% of the students who attend the institute enter law school in the fall.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the CLEO Program?
CLEO assists individuals who have a strong desire to join the legal profession. Applicants must be eligible to attend an ABA-approved law school at the completion of the summer program. Applicants must obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university prior to the start of the summer institute.
What about my GPA and LSAT Score?
Many students with low LSAT scores and GPAs would not be admitted to law school without the benefit of CLEO. While CLEO Summer Institute participants must meet predetermined academic requirements, CLEO recognizes and considers the numerous challenges that applicants have overcome in pursuit of their goals.
Although CLEO may be liberal with respect to academic eligibility, it is unlikely that a student with a LSAT score and GPA below 140 and 2.7 will be selected without a recommendation from a CLEO Member School or Supporting/Sustaining Institution (MSSI).
What is the recommendation process from a CLEO Member School or Supporting/Sustaining Institution (MSSI)?
Although there is a rolling admission policy, CLEO will also send the names of all applicants who have applied to the law schools that appear on the CLEO application. CLEO Member law schools may choose to make recommendations.

How many students are selected and how much does it cost?
Each law school will host 40 students and the cost is $2000 which includes dorm housing, food, books and materials for sic weeks. There are a few low income seats at a cost of $500. Each participant pays for their transportation.
CLEO Fellows consist of both those already accepted into law school and those who need placement assistance. In fact, today about 70 percent of the participants have already been admitted or conditionally admitted to law school prior to the start of the full time program.
When will applicants be selected?
CLEO is competitive. Each year, the program receives 600 applicants. CLEO has a rolling acceptance policy. The CLEO early decision will enable applicants who apply by November 26, 2010 to receive “early admit” status. If selected, you will be notified by January 31, 2011. All applicants will be notified of their status by mid May, 2011.
When is the deadline for applications?
All applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2011.
